Need logo ideas/suggestions...kevl

Hey, I'm looking for ideas for a club logo. My local MTB club is thinking about getting stickers/t-shirts/etc. with a club logo on them.

What have you all seen out there? Anything you liked? What do you think would be a good logo (realistic too)?

Just trying to come up with ideas.

as well as the area you're in. You can play off a lot of things depending on name, area etc. I could try to come up with some ideas.

It's Lawrence Mountain Bike Club. Club members have said that we could do something with the acronym instead (LMBC).

We're here in Kansas, but we can't use the Jayhawk since it's a trade marked logo and there's already a university cycling team, nor can we use the state flower (sunflower) since that's the name of a local bike shop.

Thanks for spending some time on this.

that is, think Wizard of Oz, lack of hills, etc...

Dorothy in downhill gear with Toto in the basket, maybe.

I normally don't like Wiz references, but Downhill Dorothy could be kinda cute.

Or we could use a tornado.

Thanks for the ideas.

but to clarify: A logo necessarily involves a letterform; a logo[type] is the distinctive rendering of a company name in type. What you are inquiring about is a symbol. Both symbols and logotypes can be trademarks and service marks. Make sure the symbol you select works in one color and in small reproduction sizes; drawing complexity and reliance on internal color distinction will not serve you well. Best wishes; have fun.

Just for my own clarification, is a logo just type? Or could it be considered a logo if it was type and basic shapes? (For instance, is the MTB review.com at the top of the page a symbol or a logo?)

I assume symbols are what you could easily recognize without having to actually read it: McD's arches, Coke's wave, the Nike Swoosh.

Right? Just checking.
