| Need logo ideas/suggestions... | kevl Jul 16, 2003 1:44 PM | | Hey, I'm looking for ideas for a club logo. My local MTB club is thinking about getting stickers/t-shirts/etc. with a club logo on them.
What have you all seen out there? Anything you liked? What do you think would be a good logo (realistic too)?
Just trying to come up with ideas.

| You can go with the WW2 motif | pimpbot Jul 16, 2003 1:50 PM | | like B17's plane nose art kinda stuff, Hornets with cigars clenched in their teeth, stinger at the ready, etc... |
| The name of your club could help... | PROGRE-SS Jul 16, 2003 2:26 PM | | as well as the area you're in. You can play off a lot of things depending on name, area etc. I could try to come up with some ideas.

| Yeah, guess it would... | kevl Jul 16, 2003 2:38 PM | | It's Lawrence Mountain Bike Club. Club members have said that we could do something with the acronym instead (LMBC).
We're here in Kansas, but we can't use the Jayhawk since it's a trade marked logo and there's already a university cycling team, nor can we use the state flower (sunflower) since that's the name of a local bike shop.
Thanks for spending some time on this.

| You could play off the Kansas thing | pimpbot Jul 16, 2003 3:10 PM | | that is, think Wizard of Oz, lack of hills, etc...
Dorothy in downhill gear with Toto in the basket, maybe. |
| You know... | kevl Jul 17, 2003 12:54 PM | | I normally don't like Wiz references, but Downhill Dorothy could be kinda cute.
Or we could use a tornado.
Thanks for the ideas.

| Not to pick nits | BadHabit Jul 17, 2003 7:31 AM | | but to clarify: A logo necessarily involves a letterform; a logo[type] is the distinctive rendering of a company name in type. What you are inquiring about is a symbol. Both symbols and logotypes can be trademarks and service marks. Make sure the symbol you select works in one color and in small reproduction sizes; drawing complexity and reliance on internal color distinction will not serve you well. Best wishes; have fun. |
| Re: Not to pick nits | kevl Jul 17, 2003 12:59 PM | | Just for my own clarification, is a logo just type? Or could it be considered a logo if it was type and basic shapes? (For instance, is the MTB review.com at the top of the page a symbol or a logo?)
I assume symbols are what you could easily recognize without having to actually read it: McD's arches, Coke's wave, the Nike Swoosh.
Right? Just checking.
