Oakley Racing Jackets. Opinions?(9 posts)

Oakley Racing Jackets. Opinions?GiantMan

I have heard great things about these glasses but I'm a little turned off that you can't interchange the lens. I like to be able to switch lenses for different conditions. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about this. Anyway I would be curious to know what lens you racing jacket oweners decided on. I need something that I will be able to use in the woods and still be able to see out of em.

I'd go with the Mframes. THe other disadvantage to the racing jackets is they do not fold up so they are always open. Now the pro-mframes are the same thing but all the other m-frames are cheaper, fold up, have interchangable lenses, and cover a lot of your face with many different lenses. If you do go for the racing jackets, get a pair of yellow or orange lenses, whichever are available. Trust me, if you get a dark lense, you will regret it when you get in to a dense forest. Anyway good luck and enjoy

Almost every week I put on my fancy orange iridium coated oakley whatevers, and every week I take them off about 10 minutes later. They are just too damn dark. The totally non-sexy old fashioned Heaters with Persimmon lenses do the job like a champ...damn it. Mine have lasted for years (I mean like maybe 7-8) and I just buy a new lens for $29 every couple of years when I scratch them up.
Well I love mine but , not real woods out here they are a bitmoab63

dark, so if you are in a really wooded are I think they could be too dark. Great for the southern cal sun.
M Frames, all the waysdbullock

I dont know much about Oakley's line up, but it has been my experience that every Oakley with hinges breaks, typically in a startlingly short time frame (my zeroes, a vain purchase, lasted one month unscratched, and broke under normal wear after three). I got some hingless m-frames (flat black, naturally, with all black accents) three years ago, and all i have done is replace the lenses anually. My favorite lenses ahve no fancy coating (and dont scratch easily!) and are only $35, so it works out very well. I think there are still some cheap hingeless m-frame models (called 'pro'?), so Lance's $250 version isnt your only option. Oh, and lens changes are VERY easy.
I have both, i like the M frame for zero peripheral blockagebjtx

because the lens has no solid frame to block.

The Racing Jacket is the best framed lens glasses for contact lens users because it almost fully enclosed like a goggle which prevent dirt/dust front irritating your contact lens.

I should not have bought them new for $150, because my friend solds theirs for only $40-$60 which were like brand new condition. You can buy the clear or amber lens from a authorized optometrist store for only $20ea.

These are the only two oakley glasses that offer interchangeable lenses. I prefer the M frames for the better protection/peripheral vision. I personally NEVER ride without eye protection, I always atleast wear a clear lens. For trail riding I use VR28 lenses and for sunny road conditions I use black iridium lenses. You only get one set of eyes and they don't heal well, so protect them.

Sorry cant help with the racing jacket :
Comparing my tayo and my M frame and rudy project Tayo.

M frame:
I like the irridium lense - but expensive and scratches easily.
Breaks at the hinge.

Rudy Project Tayo.
grey Smoke lense works well in bright days.
Yellow lense works well in the jungle as well as bright days.

Overall - prefer the tayo.
Get Oakley M frame or both if you can afford $150 each.omda

Oakley sun glasses is what the top pro use. If you can't afford them, get the Rudy, Smith,Performancebike or other brand. They are less expensive but you get 3 lens for vs 1 lens from Oakley. The lens quality now a day are very good, at par with Oakley.

Oakley is like a Ferrari/Porsche/BMW/Benz, while others are like Chevy/Ford/Chrsyler/ Hyundai, where they will get you from Point A to Point B but Oakley will get you there with more style, quality and more.
