| BCD... | Bucky Dent Jul 17, 2003 10:22 AM | | How do you determine the BCD on your cranks? Is there standard formula to use for all cranks?
what are the things that need to be considered? # of teeth on big ring? 4 or 5 bolt pattern? what else?
thanks. |
| BCD can be measured using a simple tool at your LBS... | kleinrider Jul 17, 2003 11:08 AM | | that is your best bet to get BCD without guessing.
You could also measure the bolt holes center to center using a spoke ruler or other metric ruler.
What kind of crank? How old?

| Easy... | Metroid Jul 18, 2003 5:42 AM | | Most cranks sold in the past several years are "compact" and typically runs 44T/32T/22T rings. Only 2002 and earlier XTR and a few Race Face cranks are "standard" with 46T/34T/24T or larger rings. I would guess at least 90% of all cranks sold over the past five years have been 4 arm compact crankset.
4 arm compact is 104/64
5 arm compact is 94/58
4 arm standard is 112/68
5 arm standard is 110/74
Measuring is easiest on the 4 arm cranks because you can just measure from the center of opposite chainring bolts. |
| measure bolt holes center to center then | bn Jul 18, 2003 6:02 AM | | look at the appropriate table here: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_bo-z.html |
