who concurs mtbr needs new software?Carbnjunkie

i feel like this site would be so much easier to use and run with new software...just like all the other boards are using.

im not trying to complain, cuz i know its already a lot of work to update the site, but who agrees???

I don't know anything further, but its in the works.
Personally, I'm fine with the current stuffpimpbot

Apart from a couple of minor bugs (features) this site is fast and easy to navigate and easy to post on. I wish the IRC was up, but that's me.
I like the layout, but is slow to load but I enjoy the peoplemoab63

that post here. Most seem to be real riders, like to help and have good know how. So if stays like it is is fine with me.
I don't have that problem...pimpbot

... but many do, so I wonder how much of that is routing issues or browser setup.

You're right tho, it should not be an issue for anybody.
I¨m not sure the reason, but it only happens here all my othermoab63

pages fly, even with 100 pics. All other forums I visit the only slow one is this one.

that the web servers are all over the place, and what may be a short direct route for me may be a long convoluted poorly written static route for you. For all I know, mtbr.com is served from across the street by my ISP.

I am very surprised this board operates under the old "guestbook" style message board. It would greatly improve the use and organization of the site if they went to a more common, modern style board. Highly suggested.
I've got no complaints with the current system...næstep

I much prefer the "low noise" of the current software over the more common stuff found on the other sites. I also have an easier time following branches in a thread with the software mtbr uses, and like the ability to easily pick unread messages out of a thread rather than having them all lumped together at the bottom.

I like the style of forum/message boards much better than say those on for instance as an example Pink Bike. It's far easier to find stuff and see updates and follow threads and whatnot. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Personally I'm a big fan of the consumerreview forum software. I frequent other forums and none are as easy to use as this one. FWIW... I am on a T1 at work and a DSL line at home. I might feel different if I was on a dial up...

Tips
Search at the top of the page - Try it... It actually works! It's not Google, but damn close!
View All - click this on posts with many replies. It makes reading everything quicker.
Collapse Threads - This very cool button at the top of each forum lets you condense threads so you only see the title line of each post (hides all the replies). This lets you scroll through most posts, quicker if you are looking for specific topics.
Edit - After you post you can go back and edit your posts by viewing them and clicking on the edit but (which is exactly what I did to add this tip!).

I've thought they needed new software ever since I came here in the beginning. Personally I think things move too fast for the current style of system. things get repeatedly asked over and over again when they could be put on a much easier to access type of software.
In any forum of decent size...Annihilation Principle

In any forum of any decent size (especially the really big ones like this one), you'll notice that questions tend to get asked repeatedly. This can be blamed on (though blame is not bad) A)new viewers of the forum or B)people who are too lazy to search

And, in stuff like passion and what have you- people may think they're being all witty and funny by for instance posting the downhill jump over the pelaton or fat, hairy guy or maybe in the downhill forum where "Black Diamond" debates get posted like maybe 5 or 10 posts after it was posted before.

It does keep the threads shorter.

At the very least, an updated modern search script would help a great deal.

A full upgrade to vBulletin or whatever would be very nice though.

It works just fine the way it is other than being a bit slow.
I like the www.paddling.net board...benno

Check it out:

http://www.paddling.net

What I like about it is when you click on a thread you get all the messages in the thread, like you do with "View All" on this site. In addition though, theres a section that shows the tree structure of the thread so you can see who replied to whom. Also the replies are slightly indented for the same reason. Advantage paddling.net.

The other thing along those lines I'd like to see on mtbr, is the ability to go into "View All" mode at any time. If you are searching for old posts or you are on the photo gallery threads, you get stuck having to click on every message individually in a thread. I think this is really the bigger issue in terms of usability on this site.

Neither of these points are major issues, just little annoyances that are 'nice-to-haves'.
