roadie drivetrain on my mtb(5 posts)

roadie drivetrain on my mtbji

can i put a Shimano Ultegra/D Ace crankset and a road cassette on my mtb?
I have an XTR crankset, XTR derailleurs, XT shifters, and an XT cassette on it now.

Can I use the XTR BB, the XT shifters, and XTR derailleurs?

Thanks

You can use a road drivetrain on a MTB. You may need to replace the front der and BB. I think the spline is the same on the bb, but check the width. Also a double crank will not work well with the bb, but the triple should if the width is right. The shifting may not be as crisp in the rear, but the shifters and rear der should work.

A guy I ride with has his MTB set-up with Dura-Ace front/rear derailleurs and cassette. He's a very good wrench at a LBS and says the road stuff works a lot better than XTR.

I'm pretty sure he has XTR shifters.
