Waterlogged BB shell.(4 posts)

Waterlogged BB shell.NATSU

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone have had any problems with water not draining from their BB shells? My Yeti ARC does not have a drain hole and causes water to collect there and have caused my BB to rust.
I've changed my BB 3 times in the past 6 months because of this.
The rusty BB still works fine but don't like the idea of leaving a rusty part on my bike. Do you think it is wise to drill a small drainage hole? Would this affect the warranty on the frame?
Any ideas or experiences on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Try preventing water from getting in, rather than letting it out. Nothing wrong with drilling a small hole, but prevention is better than a cure, as they say. Try greasing your seat post and putting an old tube around the seat collar area. Also slather grease all over the BB to prevent rusting. If it's a cartridge unit, why worry. If there are still problems, drill away.
Drill a hole!! Let it out {nmm}Mike T.

Thanks for the advise guys!
What I've decided to do was to implement both ideas. I'm going to drill a small 1/8"hole and tap it so a small screw will fit to prevent water from getting in there but can be removed to drain water out. Also I like the idea of putting a old piece of inner tube around the seat post/seat tube to prevent water from getting in there in the first place.
Thanks again!
