The hills are great, the scenery amazing etc etc etc. I live about 150Ks away so I have not much to do with the place but I do know that there is a group of English speaking MTBers there called 'mad milers' or some such. They have a web site which you can search up and they meet fairly regularly for trail rides (apparantly anyone is welcome) as well as doing a couple of longer rides a year (trans alp etc). WHat are they like as people? No idea, I just know about them, I don't know them. Think they're mainly americans and english.
Oh yeah the mad miler bit comes from a course they've all ridden with 1 vertical mile of elevation so stay fit.
