Help, Fox Float rebuild question (4 posts)
| Help, Fox Float rebuild question | Hoss Sep 19, 2003 5:03 PM | | Trying rebuild my '02 Float and can't get the bottom nut off. The air shaft is spinning and I can't get a grip on it with vise grips. Any suggestions? I would like to finish this tonight. Thanks. |
| Fairly common.... | Mikerj Sep 19, 2003 6:37 PM | | ...problem. There may be better ways to fix the problem but these have worked for me.
Take off the cap from the top of the shock and push down on it with your finger or the handle of a screwdriver firmly so as to push the plunger and shaft down with a bit of force. this may create enough friction ot let you get the nut off.
Or while doing the above retighten the nut to proper torque. Now you should be able to take the nut off entirely. Flip the nut around and screw it back on the threads a few turns. Tap to loosen as you did before. This time however the crush washer should not be on the threads as it was before and the nut should screw easily off.

| Fairly common even with the Float? | RVM Sep 20, 2003 2:35 AM | | Dang. I thought only the Vanilla was affected. Now I ain't looking forward to doing maintenance on the Float... |
| A couple suggestions... | Metroid Sep 22, 2003 5:43 AM | | First of all, don't use vice grips. Use a 10mm socket on a ratchet wrench. Second, leave the topcap on and pump it up to about 150psi. This should help put tension on the shaft. Fox has a new air seal for the Float. You should try to get one next time you have it apart. They have also reduce the amount of oil recommended for the damper side to 155cc and changed the proceedure for removing all the oil. All this is explained in detail in the new 2004 manual...
