hemroids and riding, and case history, serious question.jrider01

hello,

this is a serious topic, for real. i'm 29, male, avid rider, amateur racer.
i recently got my 1st hemroid and continued to ride. obviously it wasn't a major one. but it opened up one day before my race. there was blood in my stool. i raced the next day. my shorts were not pretty. went to to the doctor the next day. he confirmed it was a hemroid, told me some interesting things. hemroids are caused by many factors, spicy foods, diet, constipation, heavy lifting. women can also get them after giving birth.

he warned me to keep it clean, once it gets infected, you're in a lot of trouble.

told me to lay off the mtn biking and cut back on spicy foods for a week. with the helpful advice and prescription ointment, i'll be riding next week.

my question is, is there any known cases of too much mtn. biking causing hemroids? and a warning to all, take care of yourself first. no ride is more important than your health.

thanks and sorry for all the gross details.

Oh Hemis and ingrown butt hairs are the hex to us riders but its possible to avoid them. Here what works for me, having suffered with the hemis for close to 15 years I am living proof you can ride and have a life. First thing, hot food is BS, the number one problem is hard stools so keep hydrated especially before laying that cable, coffee works most excellent. Next you got to keep it clean and that is best done with witch hazel, use it liberally at first then just as needed its an astringent and will make your chute more tough. By the sounds you got the nasty hemi, internal kind that are hard to keep clean so its CRITICAL you do soft dumps until the wound heals then the real pain begins and it will test you like a 24 hour race. Typically the wound heals and then swells, up to grape size and its painful, you know 45 upside the head painful. But you have to survive so go to the doctor and get the cortisone suppositories and its gone in a couple days, if not you got a week+ of why the f^ck should I live. Once its over you will get into the healthy eating routine which is the best way to avoid the future pain. Yes eat like a rabbit, mnucho carbos OK but limit meats unless you eat loads of beans too or take an occasional stool softener. After a while you will forget and gwet drunk while eating some meat and next cable session its retro time... damn life can be cruel, good luck!

As the picture shows 'roids are tough business. An adder to the advise above: try using Desitin the baby oinment on your pucker when you have a flare up. The oinment soothes the 'roid and relieves any chafing. The down side is white residue all over your shorts, but it washes out.

I had bad 'roids for two years and it turned out to be caused by a larger than normal bile flow caused by gall stones. This symptom baffeled several doctors for years and I got really sick.

Good luck with managing the 'roids.

Thats a good one...!

Pushin' Mud
Launchin' a SCUD
Burnin' a Mule

And my personal favorite:

"It was so big it wouldn't flush, so I had to reach into the bowl with my hand and break it up so it would go down"

why use your hands and get em dirty, keep one of the dry cleaner hangers (squeezed together) next to the bowl. use that to slice the big load.
works for godzilla loads.

A very effective way to treat the pain is with cold. I use a clif bar frozen into a hot dog shape the foil wrapper is an excellent conductor of the cold while placed it along the bottom. Rotate every 30 minutes, it shrinks swelling and deadens the pain, anybody want a clif bar? ;)
anybody ever try this herbal stuff?...head

I get some 'roid problems from time to time and i've considered trying this stuff but my "problem" hasn't been bad enough to justify it yet.

my advice is to try a formula called vari-vein made by enzamatic therapy ...should be able to get it at your local health food store

I have varicos veins in my family and varicos veins are one of the leading causes of hemoriods

i was having trouble several years back and two weeks after I started using this formula my hemoroids started to clear up ...and as long as I take this they don't come back ...

spicy foods is a good thing to avoid though ...
