Headset/Fork wobble(2 posts)

Headset/Fork wobblesycamore

I just built up a new NRS frame with a FSA integrated headset, and there seems to be an awful lot of play in the headset, i.e., when I lock out the front brake and push the bike forward and back, I can see the top race moving back and forth. I can also feel it moving when I ride--is this normal, and if not, is there anytthing I can do about it? thanks-

When you cut your steer tube did you leave about 1/8" between the top of your stem and the top of the tube? If not the top cap on your headset won't properly be able to pre load the bearings in your headset. That would cause a loose headset. You could add a headset spacer or cut your steerer shorter. Also, remember to loosen the bolts on your stem before tightening the headset, then when all the play is out of the headset re tighten them.
