Theoretically, probably, yeah - LOTS o' stuff is possible in theory....however, realistically, I would say don't do it....sounds like a very large "jump" (your word) to me....unless, perhaps , you have a very long shim....Play it safe and get a post that fits properly (imagine the awful consequences of some sort of catastrophic failure in that area...OUCH !!!!!)
