| Continental Comp Pro 1 and Comp Pro 2 | Graw Oct 21, 2003 6:41 PM | | Does anyone have experience with these older tires and how they compare to other tires as far as climbing in loose soil, mud traction, and rolling resistance. I used to have a Comp Pro 1 and it was my favorite rear tire for technical climbs. Is there a tire you know of that has better climbing traction? |
| I just retired my Comp Pro 2 | bhutata Oct 21, 2003 8:19 PM | | No pun intended there. I was quite happy with my Comp Pro 2 as a really good tire for all around use. It was a good climber, gripped, and shed mud well from the center part of the tread, though the knobs on the edges could pack up a bit. There were a number of times climbing over roots and rocks where my rear wheel would start to spin and I'd just give the pedals another push till the tire grabbed and I'd keep going without unclipping. After the knobs wore down enough that I couldn't do this anymore, I replaced the tire.
I just installed a Geax Sedona 2.0" and in my first couple of rides, I'm thrilled with this tire. Great cornering, traction that won't quit, great mud performance, climbs up grades that used to challenge me more with other tires, just an all-around great tire for me so far. I did pinch-flat tonight, but it was my fault for landing hard with the bike leaned at an angle as I tried to steer away from some trees (I did avoid the trees and didn't crash). For anyone who's curious, I'm trying out the tire for now in the "Soft" direction. I'll probably flip it and try it the other way fairly soon. |
