I could reciprocate If anyone coming to Sydney -- I also have a spare bike here. I ride a cannondale gemini 900 - just upgraded from a Psycle Werks. I ride a mix of xc to moderate dh. reasonably fit.

I have never rented from them, but last time I was in the shop they said they rented bikes and welcomed me to ride with them in the area on a regular Saturday ride. Whittier is about 10 miles from Anaheim. I grew up in that area, but haven't lived there for over 20 years (family still does, so I visit bike shops when I visit them).
As for riding partners, keep trying, especially as the time gets closer. I'm sure yuou'll find someone to ride with.
