I was hoping someone here has one of these devices, and can give me the low down, I know that you can transfer your cd to the mini disc.... but what about MP3 I have on my computer. Are those transferable? Any other comments are welcomed?
Yes, mp3's can be loaded ...bill

I have an older model ( MZ R700 ) that doesn't have the quick download capabilities of the Net MD. In my case I plug the MD into the sound card or USB port and record in realtime from a Music program I have ( Pyro from Cakewalk ). I can record in 3 modes just like a VCR. normal mode - 80 min. LP2 - 160 min. LP4 - 320 min. Normal mode is CD quality. This is done with Sony's own data compression called Atrac. With Net MD you burn the MD the same way you would a CDR using Sony software that converts MP3's or Wav files into Atrac. I think it takes only about 10 min. to burn an 80 min. disc. The discs can be reused as many times as you want. I like mine alot. It's compact, the discs are protected in a hard case and you can write protect them like floppy discs. It has skip protection. You can also plug in a mic and record live just like a tape recorder. A single AA battery lasts over 40 hours Overall a great product. One downside is because it is so small the controls are pretty small as well

I've had a few minidsic recorders, the4 most recent one being a sony mz-707 net MD. Currently I'm using a 5g iPod. They are both totally great, with different strengths and weaknesses.

The net-MD platform is kick-ass. A few observations:
-the included "simple-burner" app works WAY better than the fancy net-md "mg jukebox" program for copying over CD's. Using this, a CD takes about 5 minutes to copy over to MD. You'll have to use the fancy jukebox program to move MP3's though.

-no mac compatibility- this is why I went to the iPOd.

-the low-fi LP2 mode sounds CD quality, you can fit about 5 albums on a MD.

-CDDB kicks ass, for automatically namimg your tracks. long as you have internet access, it's automatic.

-The microphone input (mz-707) and ability to use without a computer, even plug a mic, tape deck, or cd player straight in to the MD is totally kick ass. Better than the ipod there, and lots cheaper.

-battery life on the md is amazing- easilt twice that of my iPod.

-used 5g iPods are going for $150. worth a look- 5g equals about 1000 songs.

Hope that helps!
great,,,,,,, getting it today then......bean
