Many of us have face planted like that, and I wish I could say I was innocent.
I was riding a rock wall (at Palmer Park, CS, CO) that surrounds a lookout point in a u-shape. It is from two to three feet high and is rough on top due to the old style rock placement. I hopped up on the one end and was riding down the way to where it curves around at the bottom of the U. There were some dudes (posers) sitting there on their $5k bikes and as I navigated my $400 bike down the wall it became apparent that I would have to get off at the latest where they were, because a tree blocks you from continuing around the whole U. (You have to pick up on the other side.) So I got off, but was looking at the guys (big mistake), where the wall was only two feet high. By the time I looked at where I was going it was too late. The wall was too high to ride off at that point, and I should have dropped off. So as my front wheel hit and my rear came over the top, my head planted on the dirt, my helmet slid a bit and punched me in the upper cheek, my neck cracked and I got some scrapes.
As the posers jeered, I promptly dusted myself off and got up on the other side of the wall and cleaned it in defiance. They rode a green trail.
My neck has a kink in it now.
