| Blur Rear SHock?? | BigC Nov 26, 2003 10:52 AM | | Looking at the Blur and need feedback on rear shock options. Specifically would like to know the differences between the Fox AVA and the Progressive 5th element air shocks. Which is better, more durable, all around better choice? Also, saw some blurs with the Progressive 5th coil over rear shock on them. Aside from weight is there any negatives from running the coil over on the blur? Does the VPP suspension still work well with the 5th coil? Thanks in advance.... |
| re: Blur Rear SHock?? | laffeaux Nov 26, 2003 11:46 AM | | I have ridden on the 5th Air and on the Fox AVA. I prefer the 5th. Both feel nice while downhilling, they are very comparable. The 5th eliminates any movement in the rear suspension, while there is some movement using the AVA. The bike feels more like a hardtail in smooth sections of trail compared to the AVA.
I've had a bit of trouble with my 5th (it's headed back to Progressive), and none with my AVA. Hopefully this is an unusual situation, and the 5th will prove to be as reliable as the AVA was/is. Assuming the 5th proves to be reliable, I'd definitely recommend it over the Fox. |
| on my third 5th Element | imjps Nov 26, 2003 12:22 PM | | for my new Blur. Less than 30 day's old and had to replace two 5th Elements. If this one dies, then I'm going w/ the Fox. I haven't had a chance to ride the bike with a working rear shock. Looking foward to doing so this weekend.

| 5th | zzyxzz Nov 27, 2003 5:57 PM | | I have rode both shocks for about 3 months each. The 5th is a better way to go by far. I have had no problems with it and find the ride to be worth the cost of upgrading. Since I switched the 5th has allowed me to perform lunge moves ofer rocks and logs that were... 'squishy' at best with the Fox. It also performs much better in the area of pedal effeciency. Plus its lighter, and suffers less side loading than the Fox bushing reducers.
Thats my 2 cents. |
