| Use your left-handed monkey wrench! | El Kabong Nov 26, 2003 11:32 AM | | Brad, unless you have a Cannondale fork, there aren't any bearings in it. No offense, but take it to a shop. Or buy Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance and read it cover to cover before you start taking anything apart.

| This will require you to remove the fork | AK Ken Nov 26, 2003 2:24 PM | | to access the bearings. You'll have to remove your top cap and stem, and disconnect the front brake from the fork. Then, depending on what you see, lift the top bearings out of the headset and take the bottom bearings off the crown race on the fork.
Keep track of which is which and how they were oriented up and down. Wash them in a non flammable solvent, clean off all the old grease and muck from the races (where the bearings ride), regrease the bearings, and put it all back together.
