| Is there a way to remove decals w/o scraping off paint? | Balthazar2000 Nov 26, 2003 2:27 PM | | Hi There,
Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to remove decals without taking paint along with it? I have an older frame with some decal leftovers, and I'd like to remove them altogether.
Thanks. |
| what I've done | laffeaux Nov 26, 2003 2:37 PM | | I've removed stickers by picking at them with my finger nails and then pulling them off in small sections. It takes a while but eventually they come off (assuming they are not under the clear coat). After the stickers are gone, you're left with glue on the paint. Using "Simple Green" (cleaner) and a bit of Scotch Brite (often found on kitchen sponges) you can remove the glue without affecting the paint. |
| Yup... | Fonzi Nov 26, 2003 2:38 PM | | Use a hair dryer to get them nice and hot and peel them off. Then remove the residue with WD40, paint thinner, or lighter fluid (be careful if you use this).
Then shine up that old frame w/ Pam cooking spray. Make it look nice and new :- ) |
| A couple more ideas | uofabill Nov 28, 2003 12:58 PM | | Start with the hair dryer as above then use Goo Gone which is a citrus based cleaner or a product called PreCleano. It is a auto body cleaning product that is used to remove glue, tar, etc from car bodies before painting. Neither product with harm the finish. |
