| Enduro/Epic/StumpyFSR - Most Bang for your "bling bling" | YesILikeSpecialized Nov 26, 2003 6:43 PM | | Specialized has 3 mountain bikes in their lineup this year. The Epic, the new Stumpjumper and the Enduro plus the Epic comes w/ two different types of rear shock (one w/ and w/out IQ) and the SWorks Enduro has a Brainshock w/ Trail Tune (whatever that is). They sure make it difficult when they don't print the weights.
If cost is not an issue, which bike is the most bang for your buck... better yet, which one is the best bang - $ not an option?
I realize all 3 models are not used for DH or dirtjumping, just curious which model would see less time being sent back to the dealer for repair. Racing is not a concern nor is the "bling bling" factor of having something "special".
I've asked people about getting the new Stumpjumper FSR and have had quite a few people (Stumpjumper FSR owners) shake their head and give the nod towards the Enduro line.
I'm talking about the best all around bike. One that you would feel was limiting you. I assume the Enduro Pro or Sworks Enduro will weigh in at under 28 lbs.?
* Please don't suggest I buy a Santa Cruz or a Rocky Mountain. That's my next step in my progression of mountain biking. |

Solid bike. That is a bargain.

Also keep in mind the type of rider that you are, if you mostly do XC or race the Epic will fit better, if you want a trail bike the Stumpjumper is a better choice. I would go with an all around bike. |
| re: Enduro/Epic/StumpyFSR - Most Bang for your "bling bling" | My2bits... Nov 27, 2003 4:25 AM | | I understand the frustration. In a way, I do miss the days when companies had one hardtail line and one F.S. line. The difference was in the parts. Now companies have mulitple bikes in each catagory.
Go w/ the Stumpjumper. If you bust it, you have a warranty. If you bust it and think you would be better off w/ the Enduro, talk to your LBS about adding a few $$$ and getting the Enduro as your warranty replacement frame. The Epic is cool looking and I'm sure it rides well, but there is a $1000 diff between an Epic XT equipped model ($3800) and a Stumpy FSR equipped one ($2700). Sure the Epic gets the Fox 100x fork but do you really want to be one of their test riders? Especially when it only has a 1 year warranty?
Go w/ the Stumpy, get the Pro model. Your suspension has a 1 year warranty, the XT components have 2 years. The Fox RLC fork is proven and durable. Replace parts as you break them. Enjoy... |
