16" Kona Mini Mula for 5'5" woman?(5 posts)

16" Kona Mini Mula for 5'5" woman?KL
Jan 16, 2004 7:45 AM
Looking at a bike in the classifieds for my wife and came across a 16" Kona. I'm wondering if this might be a tad too big for her. Anybody have any input?
Thanks,
Kevin L.

I am a half inch shorter and when I was making my decision 3 years ago I chose a size small Litespeed (something like a 13''-14'' seatpost). At the time, I was also looking at a size medium Kona. I have no regrets in choosing the smaller size.

Generally, a rider may fit between two sizes and it becomes a matter of preference between feeling a bit more stretched out versus feeling able to easily reach all controls. A very flexible, athletic individual may not even notice the "stretch" whereas a less confidant individual may feel uncomfortable on a larger size.
much thanks! n/mKl

I'm 5'-5" also and have ridden a couple 16" Kona's. The effective tt length for a 16" Kona a few years ago was about 22". I also own a 14" Litespeed Obed and the effective tt length is 21". The Obed's short tt ended up being too short for me. The Kona's 22" tt was much better. I now ride a couple sm Titus's and the tt's are 22.6 & 22.7.... I do like a bit longer tt. Not all people are porportioned the same but I would think the 16" Kona would fit ok. Kona's do have pretty good std over height per size also.
Hope this is of some help.

14" Giant XTC SE2Because

My wife is the same height and rides a 2004 Giant XTC SE2. Some roadies in our local club that it was too small if she were to use it as a commuter or strickly for the road but as she rides 100% dirt she likes the generous standover height.
