| Can't decide which fork to get... | JayJay Jan 16, 2004 9:23 AM | | Hello all. I can't decide which fork to get. It's either going to be the Marzocchi Z150 FR or the Marzocchi Z.1 FR w/ QR20 Pro.
The Z150 FR offers 150mm or 6" of travel.
The Z.1 FR w/ QR20 Pro offers 130mm or 5" of travel.
I ride a Giant XTC-AC2. The OE fork for this bike was a Rock Shox Psylo XC with 125mm of travel.
Should I get the Z.1 FR w/ QR20 Pro because it's similar to my original set-up or should I just go big and get the Z150 FR????
I don't want to change the feel of the bike. How much will the bikes handling change if I add an additional inch of travel? I also don't want to void the warranty by putting too big a fork on my bike.
Thanks for all your help!!! |

I'm assuming that since your going with a 20mm axle you're problably an aggressive rider, do sizeable drops/jumps and or a clydesdale. the Z1 is a tall fork and would most likely slacken your HT angle and make more bike a little twitchy when going slow even though you're only adding an additional 5mm of travel. This is my experience when I changed to the Z1's on my bike from a 120mm Black Elite. If you do mostly downhill, though, maybe you should go with the Z150's. I think the slacker HT angle would make it ride better (not sure). Just my $0.02 (keep in mind that I'm relatively new to this biking thing and could just be talking out of my butt). I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm giving you bad info though. FWIW, I have the 03 Z1 FR SL and love it. $359 at Supergo and it's a tax free this entire weekend (and no I don't work there).

| No, I think this one is better.......... | Zeke Jan 17, 2004 11:22 AM | | The Noritaki four tine is a much better choice for his application. |
| Go with the Z1FR | WarrGuru Jan 16, 2004 3:30 PM | | Duc has it right, but I'l add a little more.
If you go with the Z1FR, you're going to slacken the HA by about 1*. The Z1FR is about 1" longer (axle to crown)than most 5" forks. The Z150 adds an additional inch so you'll go about 2* slacker....and that is a very big change. In addition, you'll also slacken the seat tube angles and raise the bottom bracket.
Go Z1FR. It's a great fork that feels bottomless and will already slacken the head angle. The Z150 might make too big a change in the handling and geometry. |
| re: Can't decide which fork to get... | Jrm Jan 17, 2004 7:35 AM | | I ran a MCR on a AC-1 in the 5.1 " travel mode. At full extension it really jacked around the geometry. Compare the crown to dropout lenght of the pyslo and the Z1 FR and 150. |
| Get the z150 | biker3 Jan 17, 2004 4:10 PM | | It has more travel and it won't effect the feel that much if anything itll make it feel better and more balanced. Plus youll have a much better ride with 6 in. Also you might want to check out the new Manitou Sherman breakouts. They have one that offers 7 in and one that offers 6 in. Both change from 5-6 and 5-7. They all have spv too. Im riding a Sherman right now and I love it its stiff and has the buttery smoothness like a marzocchi.
good luck |
| Yo...biker3....? 4 U... | man w/ one hand Jan 18, 2004 1:56 PM | | I'm wonderin' if you know anything about th' Slider Plus? Good to hear
it's on par w/Zokie in its feel.
I'm getting ready to order a Bullit, (forgive me everyone), tomorrow,
& I was wantin' a Zokie Uber T but they wont be offerin'em w/th' Uber T
& I ain't interested in th' Jr.T they are offerin'. I guess I'm gonna
get a Sherman Slider Plus, the 888 is lil' too much for me just yet.
This'll be my 1st full suspension rig & I'm used to a Zokie single
crown w/5" of travel so 8" might be too much to bite off @ once.
Thanks for any insight, & again I apologize for th' Bullit. |
