| Ceramic Rim Surfaces eating away my pads. | big country Jan 19, 2004 6:35 PM | | I have a set of crossmax's that eat my pads. The first time i rode w/them, i used normal pads, and after a two hour ride, they were gone.
The next two rides were w/ceramic pads. After 45 miles (two rides), they are pretty much gone too. Has anyone else who uses the mavic ceramic rims experienced this problem?
I use to have rolf propels, and ran normal pads on them w/no trouble. |
| re: Ceramic Rim Surfaces eating away my pads. | Ratt Jan 19, 2004 9:08 PM | | My Crossmax ate through my normal pads in one ride and howled like a banshee. Used shimano XTR ceramic pads for over 2000 mi still some life left in them. My buddy with Crossmax SL's has used 3 other non-Shimano ceramic pads usually green in color and can only get about 50 miles out of them too. I got about 100 miles on Kool Stop green, they seem to wear faster, maybe grip better but they do fade a lot more when they get hot when compared to the Shimano pads. |
| Should get better as the surface smooths out | World B. Free Jan 20, 2004 8:10 AM | | Over time, the ceramic will lose some abrasive quality, and pads should last longer. Eventually, the ceramic smooths out so much, Im not sure if bare aluminum would stop better (took about four years to reach that state..)
I've had good luck with Kool Stop green, found the XTRs too hard, which may have contributed to the premature smoothing problem.. |
| See my reply in the new forum | bikerx40 Jan 20, 2004 7:37 PM | | I replied in the new forums. I had the same issue when new. Ate through a few sets of standard pads.
Also ate through XTR ceramic pads.
WTB Abrasive (All red) worked wonders. Don't worry about wearing down the surface- that's the whole point of ceramic brake surfaces!
