After expressing displeasure with the new forum format, I have tried my best to adjust. After spending a week visiting one forum repeadly (i.e. several times a day), I have to admit the new format is WORSE that I thought.

- Unless the thread is short or if I only want to read the most recent post, I can't keep track of a thread.

- How on earth is this format faster? Everytime I click on a long(ish) thread, it takes my computer 10 seconds to download the full page (on a T1 line at work!!!)

- In any "view" of a thread (I settled on hybrid), there is no way for to see what I have or have not read before. Everytime I open a new thread it's like starting over. This sucks!

Arghhhhh!!!!!! What's happened to MTBR???????

Please, tell me that RoadBikeReview will stay the way it is!!!! I don't know if I can survive without some biking site to visit.
Yeah, me too......AK Ken

and I'm still working at it, I guess. It is WAY slower (even with all the cutesy crap turned off), and requires a lot more dinkin' around to see what's new and what's old.

It is absolutely not as good as the old format for ME, but I do understand why it's good for the administration. They seem to be sympathetic to our point of view, and do what is possible within the framework of the software to make things better.

I doubt there's any way it's going to be as easy to scroll through at high speed and see at a glance new posts in old threads, though. Little envelopes (some of which mean the exact same thing??) and small blue versus white flags just don't catch the eye like the whole line being in a different color.

Good luck.

Yeah the new board sucks, i was hoping that this old board would remain more active and show them how much the new boards suck but i guess we are in the minority. Oh well, all good things must come to an end eventually.

Besides the avitar and some anti-troll feature what was the attraction to the new format? Because its lost on me.

Some of the trolls are still there. They just don't have much of an audience any more.

I'm still here. Going down with the ship? I'm not particularly fond of all the gadgetry of the "new" format, it's kind of a distraction/annoyance to me. I'm here for the MTB content, no fluff, guess I'm in the minority as well.

I think ite really neat having 2 waist so much time trolling thru 2 forums 4 the same subject. The grassie knoll brigade may even say its a clever ploy by our internet providers 2 get us spending more $ and time useing there service. Not me.

I realize that continuing with the present software isn't a possibility but the new forums are very clunky even using a 3000kbps speed. I'm not threatening to abandon MTBR or anything but I'll definitely be around less. It's just not as enjoyable and I've also done a lot of trying to adapt.

I think I just had problems setting up the settings originally.
Now the new boards are no different than the old. Actually I would almost say they are better.
You can view all the post in a discussion as well as have the tree of the thread in view. Give you the ability to pick and choose as well.

Plus when a new post is added to an old discussion it pops to the top to reactivate the discussion instead of having in lost on the next page like the old setup.

Growing on me I guess.

slower for me now toorace frehley

The new board is now slower for me in two ways. The first is that it takes more clicks / pages to get the same amount of info (this old software is really good for getting a lay of the land quickly), and the second is now that the new board is getting more users and longer threads, it's loading slower too.

I feel the same exact way. The new format bogs information down. Some threads develop way down the line, so while the original post may not have been something.. many branches down things may become interesting/informative. -And even with wide bandwidth it takes too much time to search through threads just to see if there's something worth looking at.

And the fact that threads now move with each additional post makes it difficult to track discussions over the course of a week.

And on a final note, RoadBikeReview is making the same leap to the new software. They're standardizing all the review boards.

I've been making some posts on the new forum and trying to adapt as well... Actually I haven't been over to the old forums most of this week...

THEN, I come back here and realize how much I like this forum and its design. Like many, I too am overwhelmed with all the options, avatars, views, and other stuff. I keep thinking it's going to take some time to adjust but the only thing I'm finding is that it's taking me longer to view threads and find the info I need. The Hybrid view and Thread Start Date help but It's still no where near as nice as the old forums.

I think we all understand the reasoning for the change. For me the new forums will probably limit the amount of time I spend posting and viewing threads as well as switching from individual forum to forum within MTBr. The value of the old forum is the ability to get a lot of info quickly. A quick scan of the page would tell you if threads went offtrack, new stuff was added/posted, etc. The new forums don't seem to take this into account.

In the meantime my boss has started to notice a marked improvement in my workplace productivity since the new forums have been put in place. Heck...if I get promoted to a new job with more stress and responsibility because MTBr switched forums then I'm placing the blame firmly on Francis and Gregg...
