Santa Cruz Superlight pivot bolts(2 posts)

I'm posting this for my buddy. Recently, both bolts on his suspension arm sheered and had to be replaced. The bike shop said they've fixed quite a few of these problems. I was wondering if:
1) maybe the bike shop is covering up a shoddy assembly
2) has anyone else heard or experienced this problem?
3) does anyone know if Santa Cruz has a recall or refund if someone had this problem?

thanks

It sounds to me like someone over tightened the bolts. The older swingarms have a torque rating of 40in lbs for the bearing clamp and the newer swingarm has a recommended torque setting of 60in lbs. Both of these ratings are pretty low and can be overdone if someone was tightening the bolts by feel.

I have not heard of any other Superlight owners experiencing sheared bolts. For more info check with SC's tech support @ scott@santacruzbicycles.com
