Memorial park master plan, Houston, Tx...HELP IMBAaus10

This park is located in the inner 6-10 loop which is pretty much downtown, it has a golf course, tennis courts, swimming, polo, soccer/baseball fields, a road bicycle loop (the pinic loop), and 12 miles of XC bike trails. They've talked about closing the south side of the park which contains the soccer/baseball fields, a road bicycle loop (the pinic loop), and 12 miles of XC bike trails, to put a parking and more tennis courts...apparently some oil company wants to host the US open there. They already closed half the trails about 5 years ago b/c people were getting seriously injured or dieing out there from biking accidents. A local group of riders built a secret trail called area 51 only 1 mile from the Memorial trails, word spread and more people found out about it, area51 went unnoticed for about 3 years and was the best (most techinal) place to ride in Houston untill someone took a cop there to ride, now it is closed and they put a parking lot and a canoe launch there (i bet they let the cops ride there still). I know Houston doesn't have any mountains, but us flatlanders have to have some place to ride our bikes off road, and our own home town is slowly taking them away from everyone.

below is an article from the Houston Press which talks about the Memorial park master plan
