| Help needed with congressional testimony on National Parks | Advocate Sep 24, 2003 6:25 AM | | I have been asked to testify before a congressional committee on how the backlog of / lack of maintenance in our National Parks is affecting mountain bikers. As some of you many know this has become an increasingly important issue because the lack of funding for maintenance is beginning to reach a crisis situation in some of our National Parks.
The information needed is specific to National Parks, not BLM lands or National Forests, but National Parks.
One aspect to consider is if our trails and roads within the parks are not maintained, the resulting erosion can have detrimental affects on our ability to uses these facilities, as well as the environmental concerns of degraded watersheds. Degradation such as this in some cases has resulted in areas being closed, either by the Park Service or by lawsuits.
If you can help me out with specific ways you as a mountain biker has been affected, please be sure and state the National Park and the State it is located in, as well as the type of maintenance that has been neglected due to lack of funding.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated |
