| Deer Hunting and Mountain Biking | Walt Dizzy Oct 6, 2003 6:54 AM | | I'm planning a trip to an area that allows deer hunting in the same forest. (Berryman Trail in central Missouri, Nov 1&2).
Anyone out there have experience in sharing trails with deer hunters? I'm inclined to go ahead, wear some blaze orange, and try to get my ride in avoiding dawn and dusk. My memories of deer hunting is that most of the hunters don't bother to stay out in the middle of the day anyhow.

| We're Heading There This Weekend... | Ken in KC. Oct 6, 2003 11:49 AM | | However, during hunting season, I try and wear orange or some sort of old school dayglo jersey, just to be safe.
things to avoid:
- Brown Jersey with a white helmet.
- Bambi Ears costume
- Antler hats
You should be OK, but be sure to make some noise and let hunters know that you're a person, not a deer. Blaze Orange is most likely the best approach.

| Great trail | Walt Dizzy Oct 6, 2003 1:47 PM | | I rode it in April and had a great time. I'm really looking foreward to going back, but I think I'll leave the antler helmet at home!

| Weat orange, maybe make some noise | Dwight Moody Oct 7, 2003 6:03 AM | | Hanging a little jangly bell on your bike might be a good idea, just to warn the hunters that you're coming. Everyonce in a while some yahoo just shoots at movement, but if you sound like one of Santa's Reindeer, they'll probably hold their fire.
Seriously, the bells not a bad idea, but an orange shirt would be a good idea. I'd avoid a white helmet, you might look too much like a deer's ass bouncing down the trail. |
