Reston, VA Trail Maintenance (2 posts)
| Reston, VA Trail Maintenance | DT Dec 10, 2003 6:39 PM | | Ok, here it is, your chance to give something back...
This Saturday is MY trail maintenance day out at Colt's Neck Trail.
So if you love me at all or you even just think my butt looks cute in
lycra (close your eyes and picture that one...), then come on out!
Here's the info -
Colt's Neck Trail - Reston, VA - Saturday 12/13 - 10AM
Meet at 10am at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston (bathrooms at the end of
the main parking lot). Coffee and Donuts will be provided.
Will be concentrating on downed trees, trail debris, and hopefully
trying to eliminate some of the permanent mud spots. Will have tools
on hand, but as always, if you have a favorite tool - bring it.
Unless there is a miracle, the trails will be soupy from the recent
snow that stuck around with the low temps and is now unthawing from
the higher temps (not to mention the rain) - making a trail ride a
bad idea, BUT for those interested we will be doing a W&OD ride after
the work (you all know you need those winter base miles...).

So yea, come on and help a brother out. I might even be able to dig
up some sweet geared swag since I have no use for it...

| Thanks! | DT Dec 15, 2003 9:32 AM | | Thanks to the 12 people who came out this Saturday for the Colt's Neck Trail maintenance day. The group was able to reclaim a section of the trail that had become overgrown and was no longer in use, cleared several downed trees, reinstalled a small bridge that had floated down stream, and even put their sustainable trail building skills to work by putting in a few knicks and rolling dips to divert water flow off of the trail. Thanks to their effort, the trail is in much better condition and hopefully will be draining better - in turn cutting down on the mud patches.
If you don't know Colt's Neck Trail, it is largely based at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA. This is the first year MORE has had anything to do with this particular park and we look forward to a bright future relationship.
Again, thanks to everyone who came out. Everyone worked hard and I couldn't ask for anything else. Thanks!
