| Using my shock pump - am I a dumb-ass? | STIX Oct 19, 2001 5:47 AM | | To start, this is my first air shock. When I finish filling my rear SID shock to the desired Lbs, all the air goes out when I unscrew the valve. Do I have a shitty pump or is there a way around this I don't know about. The pump has a bleed valve for accuracy - what good is this if it all comes out anyway. Any insights would be great. Thanks. |

'cause the pump have to store air on it's shaft in order to be able to measure the pressure. when you take it off, this air comes out (that's why you have to pump it a few psi above the desired).

When you take the pump off it's the pressurized air in the pump that comes out. So the shock is indeed at the indicated pressure. Then if you put the pump right back on, air from the shock will fill the pump so you will get a slightly lower PSI reading when putting the pump on. |

| re: Using my shock pump - am I a dumb-ass? Check this... | KnobbyBob Oct 19, 2001 10:15 AM | | First, have you re placed the pump and checked if there is any air in it? You can use a gauge, too.
Second, are you removing the pump quickly? A little dab 'o lube on the valve threads will help.
Third, you could have a prob with the Schrader valve on the shock. Head over to the auto parts store and get a pack of short valve innards(or "cores") and the little tool to replace them. Then clean your shock and valve stem real good and replace the little core. Might just be your problem... at least it's a cheap fix (about 3 bucks).
Then keep a core and the tool in your kit for the future. The tool also provides good entertainment at parties when your bud consumes too much too drive... use it to remove the cores from his/hers tires. Replace the next AM. |
