| Old Judy damping? | SteveF Oct 19, 2001 7:07 AM | | A guy at work has an old steel mountain bike with a 1" threaded-steerer Judy. (1996 or '97) He converted it to Total Air Cartridges some time ago, but doesn't care for them and wants to put springs back in it. Of course, he can't find the original internals, and, though reasonably priced aftermarket springs seem to be available from several sources, damping cartridges are hard to come by. I found a White Bros aftermarket "hardbody damping cartridge but it's pretty spendy. Anyone have a mid to late 90's Judy or just the internals in good to new condition that they'd be willing to part with for a reasonable price? Or know of a source for such a thing? Please email me direct if possible. Thanks! Steve |

Get the good stuff, or get a newer fork. I don't think anybody would save the stock damper, it was plastic and leaked right out of the box. Just my .02

I've got some stock 63mm internals from a '97 Judy XC lying in a box - I replaced them in '98 for the 80mm "long travel" internals. The cartridge is Aluminum (they changed to Al that year) and I think you might have to replace the oil in the cartridge as I think I drained it but never refilled it a few years back. I'm not sure if all the parts are there, but you're welcome to have everything that's there. If you're interested, email me (hecklermtb@hotmail.com) your shipping address, and I'd be happy to send you the parts no charge. |
