| Yes it will slow the streering down... | Squash Oct 19, 2001 2:29 PM | | and it will make the handling a bit more stable than your current set up. It'll also change the climbing characteristics of the bike as well. Just how much the change will affect the handling and climbing, depends on what brand/travel fork you currently have and what you change to. Going to a Marzocchi fork from say a Manitou will affect the handling more than simply going to a longer travel Manitou. Marzocchi has one of the longest axle to crown lengths for a given travel fork on the market. But over all that extra 20mm of length will change things. Whether these changes are for the better or not is a matter of personal preference and how drastic the change ends up being.

| 100mm on RacerX Maybe..more | HoJo Oct 19, 2001 7:33 PM | | Puff, Maybe because we have more than a few variables... First the constant. Most 100mm forks have A 18.5" crown to axle measurement, we saw a few Dukes with 18" but thought this was a first batch, newer ones have been 18.5". What size frame are you on? A med w/ 71.5deg Ht angle is ok but a S XS or XXS already have a slacker HT angle. A 100mm fork on the smaller frames would ruin the handling. Do you like the existing steering?? If yes don't change. If it's a little quick for you and your on a med or larger go for it. another option... Take a Xvert super w/ 105 and reduce travel to 95. Get the nice handling and extra travel and a steal on the fork if you can find them. email me for instructions if you go this route. Best solution Consider a HammerHead 100X, that is a 2002 RacerX specially built by Titus for HammerHead bikes designed for a 100mm fork. I'm on a HammerHead 100X prototype, very very nice with a little more standover and travel in the rear, 3.75".. Great Bikes HoJo |
