| Universal, CBO | jerkass Oct 20, 2001 6:07 AM | | cbo has few |
| correction !!!! it should read al follows (more) | rich Oct 20, 2001 10:45 AM | | CBO has a few, and universalcycles really BLOWS. Do not buy anything from these guys they are the absolute worst online bike shop that there is to deal with......They seem nice right up until you have a problem then they really show there true colors....they had my rear wheel the entire summer(close to 3 months) fixing a hub that was not even a month old and they also told me lie after lie as to why it wasn't fixed yet. They also they told me it was shipped honestly about 6 times and went as far as giving me tracking numbers that do NOT even exist......STAY AWAY FROM UNIVERSAL CYCLES...... |
| I agree... | Ron B. Oct 20, 2001 12:01 PM | | My most recent problem with getting a rear shock from them (Vanilla R) was a pain in the butt. I ended up canceling my order after three weeks of waiting and being told it was on it's way more than once.
I ordered a Stratos from another place and they had it to me with in three days. I would definatly look at other shops before using Universal, at least for rear shocks.
You can order factory direct from Stratos and maybe FOX, give them a call and see if you can get a Vanilla from them direct. |
| re: Why... | Wannabe Oct 20, 2001 7:36 AM | | Buy direct from Fox. (800) 369-7469. If your buying a coil over, Make sure you calculate the spring weight before calling. This way youll getthe right one the first time. |
| re: Why... | SteveB Oct 20, 2001 10:21 AM | | How do you calculate the correct spring weight? |
| I own a Titus.... | fred³ Oct 20, 2001 1:49 PM | | and their website gives the various spring/lbs for various weights. 155lbs-170lbs = 400lb spring.

| re: Would someone please post the spring lbs. formula.. | Wannabe Oct 20, 2001 2:31 PM | | I can find it. The spring lbs. depends on the bike and shock. It has been recommended by others on theis site NOT to use a coil over ona titus due to its falling rate suspension. |
| Here ya go. I hope this helps.... | fred³ Oct 20, 2001 6:44 PM | | Rider Weight:
Up to 155 lbs.
155 170 lbs.
170 185 lbs.
185 200 lbs.
200+ lbs.
Spring Weight:
350 lbs.
400 lbs.
450 lbs.
500 lbs.
550 lbs.
Up to 155lbs uses the 350lb spring, 155 to 170 uses the 400lbs, etc. This is from the Titus site I mention in the post above. Not a formula, but not a bad place to start.

| It changes based on leverage.. | Weary Oct 22, 2001 7:48 AM | | So one table doesnt cover all the bases. The formula is based on leverage/ travel and a constant of 4 whose value i cant remember. |
| only Loco-Moto is falling rate | derby Oct 22, 2001 11:56 AM | | The Loco-Moto was designed with falling rate shock link geometry to work with a rising rate air shock. The other Horst link models all appear to have very linear geometry or a very slight rising rate. - ray |
