| Any ROCK SHOX Faithful HERE???? | GT@Rider Dec 17, 2001 5:18 PM | | I am hearing so many complaints on the 2002 line of Rs stuff. Ive talked to like hundreds of riders, lots of shops, and stuff and they say RS is great!
Anyone agree with me?
If not elaborate.
Me and my friends have had nothing but good luck with our 02 dukes, psylos, and sids. Going to try the air ballasted judys.
Anybody? |
| Should there be such a thing? | TNC Dec 17, 2001 5:45 PM | | I don't think I'd give any fork manufacturer some kind of blanket endorsement as to being "faithful" to them. Additionally there's no justification to blatantly condemning an entire fork line for some problem on a couple of their models. Currently it appears that Fox, RS, Manitou, and Marzocchi all have some pretty decent forks. I think you have to look at "each" fork in the lineup to fill a specific need a rider has and the ultimate durability of them. For example, I have two RS Psylo Races on two bikes and a Manitou X-Vert DC on a Bullit. I'm probably going to a 7" '02 Jr.T Pro for the Bullit to match a planned 7" mod to the Bullit rear suspension. At any given time, it seems all of the big fork makers have good forks for specific needs and very few of them explode with major defects. RS seems to be a more popular target for derision compared to some others, so just let everyone vote with his/her wallet. I'm quite pleased with my Psylo Races. |
| re: Any ROCK SHOX Faithful HERE???? | E-Man Dec 17, 2001 9:19 PM | | I've got an '02 Psylo SL and have nothing but great things to say about it. Before that, I was running a Sid 100 for two years and once again, nothing but compliments. I too have heard many people voicing their sour grapes about RS, but hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Don't forget that the life of ANY component is directly related to how well (or how poorly) it's taken care of. |
| re: Any ROCK SHOX Faithful HERE???? | Igor Dec 18, 2001 7:34 AM | | Yeah, I got a new Judy TT-better than the last one! No problems with it! |
| yep...I'm one... | []D [] []v[] []D Dec 18, 2001 8:21 AM | | On my fifth RS fork ('01 Psylo SL). Yes I had some bushing problems but RS (through my local LBS) hooked me up with the '02 bushings back in September. I have owned a SID, Judy, Indy and enjoyed every one. Many people knock RS coustomer support, but they don't realize that they need a good, effective LBS to communicate with Rock SHox's tech support. Now about those 02's ...I'm trying to decide on either a DUke SL or a U-Turn kit for my 01 psylo (I hear the retro-fit kits are coming early '02!)
RS has a customer for life in me. There products are cutting edge and I have no qualms with there customer support
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL.....RIDE ON! |
| Right about LBS involvement. | TNC Dec 18, 2001 5:16 PM | | Half of the customer service problems can easily be attributed to lack of action on the part of an LBS. We've had good results with just about any company on a reasonable service/warranty issue when we really wanted to get the job done. Most companies have to rely strongly on dealers and LBS's to screen alot of service/warranty issues. |
| I have no issues | laffeaux Dec 18, 2001 10:07 AM | | I currently have two RS shocks '97 Judy XC and '00 Judy Race. Both are fine. The '00 is a bit flexy, but performs well. The '97 has well over 1,000 miles on it and I've done no maintance to it and it still works. That's what I want in a shock. I also have a '00 X-Vert and a '94 Manitou 3. I prefer the stiffness of the X-vert to the Judy Race, but unfortunately you can't adjust it to 63mm which is what I need on the bike with the Race. In any event, I'm not a RS loyal, but I think their products are fine. Any consumer that blindly follows a single manufacturer and refuses to look at options is missing a lot of great products. |
| I used to be... | Sofa King Wee Todd Id Dec 18, 2001 11:03 AM | | Not that I wouldn't be now, I just don't have any. I replaced my Rear RS deluxe (basic model) with a Stratos. When I had the RS, I unscrewed the body (why? I don't know) and lots of oil poured out. I also noticed that the threads that the shaft screws into (to hold it to the rear triangle) stripped. My LBS sent it to RS, they replaced the broken part, and filled it back up for me. $0, and aout 10 days turn around. I'm not a name brand kinda guy, I just got the Z1 MCR, because I could get it for $20 cheaper than my buds New RS Psylo SL hah hah hah |
| Not looking to argue, but heres my .02. | DR Dave Dec 18, 2001 11:15 AM | | I have used some stuff from the era of 95 to 98 that was total, 100% garbage. I have talked to some customer service people there that are oblivious and lazy. I would love to give names but I dont think that would be appropriate. Hopefully they are not still employed there. I ended up having to go through Steve Beomke to get someone competent enough to solve the problem I experienced.
Their attitude at the races is very different now as well. No more customer service, where FOX, Marzocchi are sooo helpful.
I wouldnt spend a dime on something that says RS on it. I hate crap.
Ive heard its getting better but Im not going to waste my time and money finding that out. They blew it. |
| they are not bad | Davide Dec 18, 2001 4:46 PM | | but that's it, I have tried and owned Judy, SID, Psylo and:
they tend to brake a lot
they change every year and seem never to get it right the first year of production (took years to get decent bushings and seals).
and there are better forks (Marzocchi and probably Fox) for the same money ... |
| i like mine | litephil Dec 18, 2001 8:25 PM | | rode headshox for years.finaly got a sid xc and loved it but the left side leaked air.after 2 attempts to fix they sent me a 01 sid 100.
i since then got another sid 100 on my other bike.they are a bit flexy
but i think they are a great liteweight fork. |
| as I said, they are not bad | Davide Dec 19, 2001 7:00 PM | | but there are better forks out there, and it also depends on what you use them for ... |
| Rock Shox are great if you... | POG Dec 19, 2001 9:34 PM | | are playing croquet and you knock one of your little wire things down. You can hammer the POS rock shox thing into the ground and continue your game. |
