You want bombproof and plush? I'd go coil.

Who do you think you are? Osama bin Laden?

Hey, for what it's worth, I weigh in at a feathery 235 lbs., and I'm an air convert. Mind you, I'm not doing any big drops or freestylin' down granite cliff faces, but I don't baby my suspension either.

I started with an Eko-Sport Total Air cartridge install to an old '96 Judy. I wasn't looking for weight savings, I just wanted to get rid of the hassle of finding the right spring rate and get the fork dialed in. These cartridges prooved to be ultra reliable, perfectly tuneable, and saved me a few ounces to boot. Granted, the '96 Judy wasn't comparable to today's coil forks, but the ride quality was greatly improved by this change.

The TA carts lead me to a Cane Creek AD-12, and again, the difference was amazing. The tuneability was superb, allowing me to really dial in my full useable travel and get rid of a bunch of bob that plagued my coil. Again, ultra reliable and no springs or oil to mess with.

I finally broke down a bought a new fork, a Manitou X-Vert Air, to install on my new bike. I have my fingers crossed that my run of good luck continues...

BTW: I gotta agree with the other guys that coil is definitely more bombproof and more plush once you get it dialed in.
