| '01 Marzocchi X-Fly 100 or '01 Z1 MCR? Help me choose. | Wierzyman Dec 18, 2001 12:29 PM | | Both shocks are on sale for great prices at Supergo, $279 and $329 respectively. I am a 170 pound, middle aged free ride wanna be, except I haven't got the guts to huck anything over 3 feet. Most of the time I am doing cross country on my '97 Cannondale Super V500 with about 2.5" of travel. I want something light, stiff, and will allow me some better control when things get a little steep and rocky, and will soak up the bumps instead of pitching me over the bars. Yes I know about needing a new headset, adapter and stem. Which one would you choose and why. Give details of riding either one. Thanks! |
| Get the z1 | kristian Dec 18, 2001 1:53 PM | | I've had an '00 X-fly and three z1's. They are both good forks in their own way but all it took was one stupid little fall to ruin the X-fly. The stanchion got a little score on it and it was enough to ruin the seals, promptly deflating the fork. In order to fix it, I had to get a whole new crown/steerer/stanchion unit (which Marzocchi gave me a great deal on but still was expensive). I've had nothing but good luck with all of my z1's in terms of durability.
In terms of ride, the X-fly felt better than any air shock I've ridden and I never bottomed it out. It wasn't as active as the z1 though. The z1 tops the X-fly in every possible way except of course in weight. |
