| Fox Vanilla 125R | Nat Dec 20, 2001 6:47 AM | | I bought a 2002 Fox and am very glad I did. I run it with stock springs at 125mm, and replaced the stock oil with 7wt. Buzzy's Shock Nectar (Fox said their own oil wasn't yet available for purchase). I run it three to five clicks from full fast rebound. I heart this fork.
I haven't found any negative issues with this fork yet. I had a 1998 Z1 Bam before I bought this one.
I'd rate it 5 WonderRoast Chickens out of five. |
| Morati rigid Titanium, disc-only... | SS_MB-7 Dec 20, 2001 8:15 AM | | I'm now racing/riding on a Morati rigid Titanium, disc-only fork (1.4lbs) on my custom Seven Ti disc-only singlespeed.
Prior to this fork, I had a Spicer Cycles rigid steel (2.6lbs), disc-only fork; a '01 SID Race (gutted and internals replaced with EKO cartridges) (2.6lbs); and a '01 X-Fly 80 (modified to 65mm) (3.5lbs). Ride Hard, Mike B. |

real nice s.spd b.t.w!!

| Threaded? | SS_MB-7 Dec 20, 2001 7:52 PM | | Scant, By "threaded", do you mean a threaded steerer tube? I'm confused by your question since you included "v brake" with "threaded". Do you want "v brake" bosses or a "threaded" steerer tube? If you mean the former, than yes, the Morati Ti fork is available with v-brake bosses. If you mean the latter, than you'll need to email Morati. Ride Hard, Mike B. |
| Threaded? | scant Dec 20, 2001 10:29 PM | | yeh sorry, i meant threaded with canti bosses. i'll ask moratti
thanx! |

| Morati rigid Titanium, disc-only... | JAZ Dec 23, 2001 9:42 AM | | Nice bike!!! How does this ti fork feel on the bike compared to the lightweight suspension forks? I've been considering making the same switch. It seems that the short travel forks provide very little in the way of plushness, so why not same some weight and the hassle and maintainance. Thanks

| My Fleet... | BH Dec 20, 2001 9:20 AM | | Me, 205 pounds, 6' tall Bike 1 2000 Voodoo Bizango, 1999 Marzocchi Z2 Atom Bomb (65mm travel), heavy springs (I think the extra heavy would work better for my riding style) Bike 2 1999 Breezer Lightning, Tange steel rigid fork (for non suspension corrected geometry which the Breezer has) Bike 3 2001 Titus QuasiMoto (set for 5 3/4" rear travel), 2000 Marzocchi Z1CR, set for 4" with the stock heavy springs and the compression damper drilled (only 1 hole). Bike 4 1990 Fisher HK2, Fisher rigid (my loaner bike) I also have a 1999 Z2 Superfly (set at about 45 psi, I think) as backup. |
| re: fork poll time.... | floating pistonhead Dec 20, 2001 1:57 PM | | I run a Fox Float 80 RL. (You don't know what you are missing until you try it) I use the lockout as a street/offroad switch. Fox Forx oil (with Viagra for extra stiffnes!) The Mars elite fork that came w/ my SJFSRXC was too flexy and mushy. |
| '01 x-fly 100 on Tracer | derby Dec 20, 2001 2:12 PM | | Last fork was the '00 Z1 x-fly. Got this new x-fly 100 from Supergo for $279, etc. This new x-fly is even more smooth over little stuff and more plush due to an inch more travel (Marzocchi wouldn't warrantee or recall the defective factory design limiting usable travel to 75% of advertised on all the '00 x-flys). The new x-fly doesn't have the factory designed bushing slop the '00 did either.
It's on 5 month old Tracer frame under my 200 lbs. I've added the same set of custom negative springs I used in the old x-fly (Marzocchi (softer) coil topout spring plus some softer $1.50 hardware store springs, stacked on each side) which gives smooth topout without slowing the rebound down as much and still 4 measured inches of travel.
I'm running oil height of 45mm, 48 lbs air pressure in both legs and 4 turns out from slow damping with the stock oil. This may change as the fork breaks in more. And I'll switch to ATF which worked fine if not better than the stock oil in the old x-fly for over a year.
When I first got the fork I took it apart to change the negative springs and while in there I packed under the dust seals with slick-honey lube. The first ride was smoother than my old x-fly ever was (which I'd tuned to be smoother than most coil bombers I've felt). The air spring rate is much more linear. And I plan to try coil springs in it after it breaks in to see if there is much difference in action.
I'd like to demo the Marathon and the Fox RC and Black. I've tried the '02 Psylo SL and really like the U-Turn a lot, but the rest of the ride quality is noticeably below Marzocchi air.
4 1/2 out of 5 chilies - needs quality stock negative springs to get 5 chilies.

| DNM_VTS_20 DH on a budget | XvertCarbonMan Dec 20, 2001 5:23 PM | | I have a DNM VTS 20. This is a very cheap DH fork.
6 inches of travel open oil bath with a cartridge damper.
5 weight oil. Rebound Fast.
This is a great fork for a DH beginner.
Selling it to a mate and upgrading to an xvert carbon to save some weight and get additional travel and adjustment (DNM is 6.3 inch I think).
Strengths:
Very Burly (35mm uppers, non inverted)
Price
Very modular, separate: crown's, steerer, brake arch, lowwer and upper legs
decent seals
low stiction
Weaknesses:
Long crown to axle height for travel
no external adjustments for compression
heavy 3.3kgs
bad availability of spares |

| Marz Z3 coil 100.. | HooKoo Dec 21, 2001 2:50 AM | | With quite a lot of preload (I'll get the heavier springs after christmas) and rebound at about half way.
This replaced a Magnum R which came stock and is now on my beater.
Previous fork was a Z5. |
| re: fork poll time.... | The Squeaky Wheel Dec 21, 2001 6:43 AM | | Put a 100mm Fox Float RLC on my new Hammerhead (modified Racer-X) this week. Only 2 rides as of date, but at this point I'd say its the best fork I've ever ridden. Ultra stiff, smooth over both the stutter bumps & big hits. Getting full travel right out of the box. Only question is durability, but I'm hoping that Fox's experience & customer service will pay off big dividends.
Other forks include Z2 Atom Race 80mm (which I thought was the best 80mm fork available until I got the Fox), Z4 70 mm. I've ridden the Zoke X-Fly which is stiff & nice on big hits, but not supple enough on the small stuff. Rock Shox Judy is way too flexy & rebound feels dead. Psylo has nice feel, but requires a lot of TLC (frequent overhauls).

| re: fork poll time.... | WaveDude Dec 21, 2001 6:56 AM | | Me: 5'-11", 155lbs.
First Bike: Haro EX2 with '99 RS Judy C. The Judy C gave me some problems so RS gave me a '00 Judy Race to replace it. I really like the Race. Swapped in a second yellow spring because the original red/yellow felt too stiff. 2,400 miles later the fork still feels great but but has some bushing slop. You didn't ask but the Haro came with a RS Deluxe rear. Blew that out w/in 8 months. RS gave me a new one. It lasted just over 1 year. Replaced with a Stratos TR1. It's going in for warranty because it lost it's nitro charge.
Second Bike: Kona 2001 Stinky Five. One ride old. Marzocchi Z5 and Fox Vanilla R. No comments because it's brand new.
Wife's Bike: Kona 2001 MokoMoko. RS Judy TT and Fox Vanilla R. The Judy TT is a P.O.S. OK for my wife who's just learning but it's gonna get replaced with a Judy Race once she's beyond the crashing stage :) Had to replace the stock Vanilla spring with a 300lb cause she's a lite-weight. |
| Fox Vanilla 125 RLC | DGC Dec 21, 2001 8:00 AM | | Fox Vanilla 125 RLC is my current fork, this is one excellent fork.
Stock springs, Spectro 125/150 oil ensures a smooth butter ride.
Just came off of Marzocchi 2001 Z-1 QR20 with a 2002 rebound cartridge in it. The Fox is stiffer steering, better use of the mid stroke, less fork dive, and the low speed compression adjustment is well done, never harsh. The Z-1 is a very good fork, the Fox is simply better. |
| re: fork poll time.... | Fdwx Dec 21, 2001 8:05 AM | | At 6'5" 230# I need a burly fork. I replaced my Z-1 CR with a new FOX Vanilla 125 RLC. What a difference! You can't believe the performance of this fork. Ultra smooth and very stiff. I run it with the heavy springs, rebound at 4-5 out, compression at 5, and the lockout adjustment at max. I have this on a 2001 FSR Enduro, I flipped the rear shock link over and got the head angle back in line with an added bonus of extra bottom bracket height...no more pedal strikes. |
| re: fork poll time.... | davidp Dec 21, 2001 10:16 AM | | I have a RS (I know) Psylo Race 2001.
After all of the hell that I endured before I could ride on it, I finally got it back and like it. It is the most plush fork I have ridden, I haven't tried the fox's yet! I have it pumped to 150psi in the positive and 130 in the negative. Since the compression adjuster's don't work for RS I don't know where it's set.
RS PSYLO Race with 5" on my SC Superlight. |
| my forks don't match | gonzostrike Dec 21, 2001 9:59 AM | | I have a Salvation Army place-setting... heh
FS - 1999 Marzocchi Z3 QR20 (105mm). Love it.
HT - 2000 Marzocchi Z3 BAM (80mm). Love it.
SS - 2000 Manitou SX-R (80mm). Pretty nice, very cheap price, but not a Marzocchi.
The HT originally came with a 1999 Z2 BAM (80mm), but this summer the damping cartridge literally exploded and mucked up the sliders and stanchion tubes. Before that happened, the fork was absolutely perfect. I'm considering rebuilding it for the SS. |
| re: fork poll time.... | jacob Dec 21, 2001 10:16 AM | | I have 2000 Manitou Magnum (the regular one, not the Magnum R) with blue springs and blue MCUs. Sag is set around 5-10 mm. Sure, its not as nice as the Marzocchi's and RS, but it suits me fine. At least I don't have to deal with oil changes and damping and stuff like that. (sorry fellow bikers!!!) So far, I have no issues with it....she's smooth and quiet. My last fork before this was on a Pacific bike...you get the picture of what kind of fork it is. |
| Marzocchis replacing Manitous.... | Markv Dec 21, 2001 10:41 AM | | Own a 00 Atom 80 on a 99 Racer X and a 00 z1 CR on a 98 FRS Elite. The z1 replaced a 98 X Vert R and I owned a 98 SX R. Both Manitous had QC problems and were fixed for free at the factory, but it left me with bad impression of the quality control at Manitou. The Marzocchis have performed flawlessly and have made me a better technical rider. |
| 00 Z1 CR QR20, 5" | ohio Dec 21, 2001 11:13 AM | | About to switch to 4", because I'd like my bike quicker. I don't notice the increase in travel or stiffness over the 00 Z1 I had on my last bike.
The fork still needs tweaking as I haven't been on it that long, but if I can get it as good as my last Z1 (same fork just no QR20), I'll be very, very happy.
Oh, and it's on a hardtail: spooky pitboss. |
| Z2 BAM and Stratos S8 Ultra | Jm Dec 21, 2001 11:22 AM | | Z2
One X-tra heavy spring and one Pro-wind, I keep going back and forth switching between full pro-winds and half-and-hald like I have now. It is a great fork and there is not much to say about it, because it works so well.
Oil 5wt
S8
External high speed compression ajuster(extra option), preload ajuster(extra option). Stock springs, oil height unknown(set up for me from the factory). Travel is great, bottomless. The high speed ajuster makes a difference, and the fork is just HUGE. Grips are the aluminum alloy axle that is easily scratched(the fork needs a steel axle like a boxxer) and there are no factory fork guards, but I made my own which are about 2x tougher than any other fork guard. |
| 01 SID SL, 80 mm | Mossy Dec 21, 2001 1:27 PM | | On an Adept Race -- its a great setup for NorCal, especially Santa Cruz, where I live |
| re: fork poll time.... | FrameBuilder Dec 22, 2001 8:05 AM | | 1. 99 Atom Bomb...great fork. Running one medium and one heavy spring for 170lb rider. 2. 00 X-Fly...not happy with it, sold it. Bushing play from new, short on travel. 3. 01 Atom 80...Like the 99 Atom Bomb but not quite there, running the heavy two stage springs. Next...going to try a Marathon S (80mm). |
