Swapping Hayes Hydros from SXR to X-Vert Super (X-post Brake(5 posts)

Swapping Hayes Hydros from SXR to X-Vert Super (X-post BrakeBud
Dec 22, 2001 12:13 PM
I bought a Super to replace the SXR currently on my bike and just noticed that the post mounts on the Super are different than the mounts on the SXR. The lower post on the Super is significantly shorter than the lower post on the SXR. Is this going to cause a problem with my Hayes hydraulics? Do I need an adapter or is the difference in post lengths just a result of differing fork geometries? I checked the Hayes web site but they don't list the adapters for 2001 forks, although the 2000 X-Vert and SXR do not need any adapter. I always thought that all Manitou post mounts don't need adapters for Hayes brakes.
Thanks for any help.

This will work as long as your SXR is a recent model. It wasn't 'till like '99 that Answer and Hayes went to the spacing they are curently using. I actually have an SXR that has the old spacing. It's close like 68mm instead of 72. Also, there is a small chance that your longer travel will necessitate a longer brake line. If you run into any problems, you can contact me at The path bike shop for help. Tani@thepathbikeshop.com

thought the SXR was only made apres 99.

Although the posts could look different but be the same as different angles and rise and so n so could achieve the same geometry.
