| Manitou Black Super Air Question | Meagain Feb 19, 2002 10:10 AM | | Does anybody have one of these forks with the no-boss option? I heard Manitou only made a few or is in the process of making more... I really don't know. Anyone care to shed some light on this subject? |
| I've got one... | b_dot Feb 19, 2002 10:33 AM | | I just received a no-boss Black Super Air directly from a friend at Manitou. They obviously had the no-boss castings when he built the fork two weeks ago. They only had them in black though, which is cool for me. Any fork named "Black" should probably sport the color that is its identity, don't you think.
The fork has been really impressive. I weigh 160lb, and am running the fork on a Klein hardtail set at 100mm of travel. With it set up at Manitou's recommended 125lb for my weight, it was a little soft, and seemed to dive too much under braking and hard cornering. I upped the pressure to 130lb and its much better.
Good luck. |

| I special ordered... | xerxes Feb 19, 2002 12:44 PM | | a bossless Black Super Air in red last November through my LBS. When they hadn't arrived as expected from Manitou, they called and inquired about it. They were told that the next run in red would be ready in January. I ordered, and immediately received, a bossless model in black instead. So short answer is yes, they should have the red bossless model, unless that run also has sold out. |
| P.S. | xerxes Feb 19, 2002 12:47 PM | | I highly recommend getting the TPC+ add-on for the Black forks. Mags say it should cost $80.00, but who knows what it will actually be. I haven't researched it. The regular TPC damper in the Blacks are noticeably inferior to the TPC+ damper. The + really smooths out the action and makes the fork feel bottomless in transition from small hits to G outs. |
