| How to stop that insane clicking on my SX-R? | shake&bake Feb 21, 2002 11:51 AM | | I'm sure that this has been answered before,,,but how do I stop that damn click everytime I hit a root or something similar with my SX-R?
I've had the fork for about a year and it made this noise right out of the box. I figured it would just go away, but alas... I have tried different weight oil, lots of grease on the mcu's & spring, and even tried wrapping the spring in shrink wrap. My headset isn't loose and
the bushings seem fine. Any ideas would be great (I really don't want to send it back to Manitou.) |
| a couple ideas. | jw25 Feb 21, 2002 12:39 PM | | I remember that some of the MCU connectors had molding ridges on them, that would make noise as they rubbed the inside of the stanchion, but a year of riding sould be enough to wear them off. You might want to look anyway, and sand them smooth if anything's there. Otherwise, I've had clicks from headsets with a split crown race (most of the FSA, and the newer Cane Creek/Specialized use these). The idea's good, as you don't need to pound them on or off, but the design seems to allow some movement, and if grit gets in there, or the grease dries up, it can click. It's probably worth it to pull the fork off, and check the crown race, head tube and headset cups for cracks, etc. If you do have a split crown race, a good cleaning and greasing should stop the problem. |
| Thats Normal!. | skywaybuzz Feb 21, 2002 7:26 PM | | My X-vert Super does the same .Seems I saw posts somewhere saying all make that knock when hitting small obstacles. Kind of annoying huh? I thought if i softened the fork I could make it go away. Worked a little bit but not enough. Get a older Marzocchi with the old bolt on crown and bolt on brace is better anyway. |

| Spring seat? | Dougal Feb 22, 2002 3:18 PM | | Maybe your spring isn't seated properly.
Those springs have one end with slightly smaller diameter than the other, this side goes down into the fork and locks into the top of the compression rod.
Should solve your problem.
