| Is there a warranty on Atom 80's crown finish? | tankhead10 Feb 24, 2002 4:23 AM | | Since I have bought this shock from Bikesmart.com the crown has been just been horrible. It has pits developing (very small) in the metal. Stains of mud that are permanately on the crown and I always clean my bike after every ride and I don't use any chemicals on the bike to clean. I just am wondering if I am crazy or is this normal for a five hundred dollar (list) fork to have happen to it. And if so how do I prevent it from taking over the whole crown. Interity problems in the future? |
| I have the same problem... | DIRT BOY Feb 24, 2002 4:55 AM | | IJust deal with it according to Marzocchi. I go flamed for compalning about it here, granted I sadi it wrong, but like everyone said it's a mountain bike and shouldbe exspected to get beat up. I too feel like something of a high dolar value should hold up better.
Have you ever seen XTR cranks afetr a year of riding? A lot of the fininsh gets rubbed of on the crank arms...XT has a better fininsh.
My advise like they told me. Ride on the road if you want to keep a pretty bike!

| I was just curious..... | tankhead10 Feb 24, 2002 5:24 AM | | because I didn't know much about this. I thought I might have a bad crown. I'm not complaining I just wondered if this will cause problems down the road. There is actually pitting in the crown. I don't want this to keep corroding and then have the thing crack in half going down some rocky downhill. |
| It it's actually pitting due to corrosion... | Squash Feb 24, 2002 7:08 AM | | Give Marzocchi a call and see what they have to say. Do you live in a snow area where they use salt or chloride solutions on the roads and ride in the winter? That's the only thing that I can think of that would actually pit aluminum like that. Or are you talking about rock dings and such. There is allot of material in that crown, I doubt that you'll have any problems with it down the road. But if it is pitting due to corrosion I'd contact Zocch and talk to them about it. I'd also evaluate where I was riding. Pitting of aluminum like that is usually caused by some sort of chemical reaction with some thing other than just standard H2O, dirt, and trail mud.
