How is the "Rapid Compression Adjuster (RCA)" button? What does it really do and how does it feel when activated? Is the shock basically locked out?
Thanks. |
| I've got one on my Heckler | Shakazulu Apr 8, 2002 9:05 AM | | I used to run a Fox Vanilla R, which I really liked. But I wanted to drop some weight, so I went with the Cloud 9. Going from a coil to a spring, hard to really compare apples to apples. Of course the coil is much plusher and active. On the other hand, the Cloud 9 is much more adjustable - rebound, compression and air pressure. All of the adjustors work, and make a noticible difference. It did take a while to get the shock set up the way I like it. Just need to be patient - lot of trial and error. I do feel that this shock is not progressive enough. The travel feels too linear. If you want it to feel "plush", it may blow through the travel in a "linear" fashion. However, if you pump it up, it'll limit travel. You really need to play with the combination of compression and air pressure to get it right, or as close to right as possible. The RCA button essentially sets compression to its MAX. It is effective, though not completely locked out. IMO, this is actually better than completely locked out. Turns out I don't use it though because I like the suspension to help me "hook up" on climbs. But if that's your thing, RCA works just fine. On the trail, you don't notice the "idiosyncracies" of an air shock as much. The travel feels much more natural than when bouncing around your driveway trying to set it up. It really has been very effective for me, and I can honestly say that the trade off between the weight of the coil for a slight reduction in "plushness" has been worthwhile. As a final note, I've been told that in the AD series of shocks, there is a volume plate that the user can move to make the shock more progressive. The Cloud 9 does not have that option. Just another thing to consider. Peace Shakazulu |
