Shock sucking sounds...(4 posts)

Shock sucking sounds...B R H
Apr 7, 2002 7:51 AM
I've got a Marathon S and lately when the shock is in action it makes sucking sort of sounds. It's like I can clearly hear oil flowing thru passages or something. Almost like maybe it's oil and air (cavitation?). I'm new to front suspension so I have no idea if this is normal once it's broken in or does this mean something is wrong (oil level?)? The shock seems to work fine otherwise. Haven't noticed so much as a drop of oil leaking anywhere but the left side seal is leaving black crap on the stanchion.
I don't know if it is normal for your forkKornphlake

every fork I have ever ridden that uses an oil dampening system makes that noise. Maybe it is a problem with your specific fork though. I'd ask the folks that sold it to you if it is normal.
Probably nothing...HooKooAl

All Marzocchis, being open oil bath forks, make the "wet squish" on compression and rebound. If it's performing fine then it's probably just that.

Alan.
OK, thanks...B R H

I guess it's just normal then -- guess I just didn't notice it before last week for some reason (ear wax?). I need to change the oil soon anyway since it seems that silicone spray was eating away at one of the seals (black marks on stanchion).
