02 Psylo Race Issues / HelpMick
Apr 8, 2002 10:07 AM
Double post from the General Discussion:

I'm having some issues w/ my new Pyslo Race... It seems to work ok (although very, very, very sticky...but guess just needs more breakin time?), but there is kind of a "clunk" sound on the sharp hit... like when the wheel comes down from doing a wheelie. It's noticable (noise) on the trail, and a little concerning...
Anyone have any experience w/ this... Is this normal for the Psylo Race? Any setup advice? I have about 140psi in both pos & neg springs (using the supplied pump). Thanks!

I have an '01 and '02 Race on 2 bikes. That tells you how much I like Psylo Races. I've had a couple of others apart at the shop. They are actually fairly simple. To begin with, 140 psi sounds too high unless you're the Rock. I'm 180 and running 90/90 to get all 5" of travel on my FSR. Another guy at the shop is 225, 6'4", and runs 130/130 for 4" of travel. You should start dropping air until you get the full travel setting that yours is set for--use a zip tie on the stanchion. Secondly, this fork likes well-lubed seals. There is an open well and a foam ring under those XXX fork seals that need to be juiced up with Red Rum, Tri-Flow, or other teflon based lube. They need lubing at least one a month, but it's very easy. This is probably the stiction you're experiencing. RS website has excellent instructions on most of this.
