2002 Psylo XC vs. LS(10 posts)

2002 Psylo XC vs. LSeddy5027aol.com

Im trying 2 decide between the XC or LS Pyslos. Ive read leakage problems with the LS but it also has the u-turn feture which i rly like. The XC is a little heavier and does not have the u-turn, but is also cheaper. Help me choose.

ok, first off it is a sl not ls. Than 2nd the xc has uturn but no lockout, where the sl has uturn and lockout. The sl is much better feeling because of the pure damper. And overall i think is a much better fork. Do you want to buy my 2002 psylo sl tullio? im only selling because i got a triple crown fork. its been used 4 times, 350$
hmmm. more realistic info than previous salesman.TC

first off, i don't own either but am going to get one or the other and have been looking at both. Here's the difference between the 2002 psylo XC and SL. they are the same (including external u-turn adjustment) except:
-SL has aluminum steerer tube, XC has steel - slight weight savings.
-SL has better damping system with compression control and lockout. XC has rebound adjustment and compression tuning only by changing oil weight.
-SL has "PTFE" coated stanchions that are supposed to slide better and have less stiction.

For me the lockout is useless as i rarely ride anything smooth. A few grams of weight don't matter (i can drink any wieght difference in beer the night before a ride anyway). i've never had PTFE coated stanchions in my other forks('01 Xly100, '00 SidXC, '99 Judy,'00 atom 80) so i don't think i would notice the difference. As you can guess, i'm leaning towards the XC. it's simpler with less things to leak or break and i don't need a lockout.

The Pure damper is totally different from the Hydra coil unit in the XC. I have ridden both (Hydracoil for a year, Pure for about 6 months) and the Pure damper is much better. I rarely use the lockout, but I do use the compression adjustment (that is what the lockout is, just a compression damping adjuster) on almost every ride. Being able to go from a full soft damping to a stiffer damping setting on the fly is a very nice thing. Just my thoughts.

never ridden pure so can't say. i'm quite happy with my...TC

2000Sid XC damping, so i probably have no idea anyway. ignorance is bliss.

...something the sl does not. So you can fine tune the springs better with the xc than the sl.

Internally the sl is a better fork. MtbikerTi is correct that there is a huge difference between the pure damper and hydracoil. Pure damper alone is worth the extra money.

No offense to bullit_rider, but you can do a hell of a lot better than a used psylo sl tullio for $350...That about what I paid new last summer before shipping. There's a new one on ebay right now at $240 with no bids: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1819129550

correction: the 2001 model did...what was I thinking? No preload when there is a u-turn spring installed.

true enough, but for 240 it should be bid on with only 1 day left!! these forks are alot better this year than last. I dont know why people wont except that they actually made a good psylo. The xc is good ive ridden them b4, but like everyone else said the sl feels much nicer and the damper adjustment is awesome. Go grab that SL off ebay, its a sweet deal. BTW the psylo for 350$ still isnt a horrible deal, the ebay one is just a really good deal so... some person will come along and buy it sometime, no hurry to get rid of it so....
That's not a bad price new...fonseca

$350 new for the tullio is not a bad price...but once a fork is used, even if just one ride and in mint condition, people usually won't pay as much...no waranty unless the original owner is willing to help out and warranty it it for the buyer.

New 2002 psylo sl qr is $319 at universalcycles.com...tullio for $30 more.
