| Which fork for a light XC rider? | Amanda Apr 9, 2002 4:50 AM | | Can anyone recommend a pair of forks for me? I weight 112lb and I'm 5ft 1. At the moment I've got some RST Mozo pros which I had for 4 years. They don't work very well despite many attempts to modify them. Would air sprung forks would be a good idea? I'm particularly keen on Marzocchi's (perhaps the new MXC's). I don't mind how much they weight I just want them to work.
Advice would be appreciated coz I'm going mad trying to make my mind up. Sometimes I wish I weighed 200lb! |
| personal experience with 3 forks... | TC Apr 9, 2002 7:53 AM | | my girlfriend is taller and heavier (she'll never see this post!) but she has uses 3 different forks that all work well for her. they are:
- 2000 Sid XC - light air fork that will work well if you don't use disk brakes. lightest fork she uses and she's around 140lbs, no noticable flex for her weight.air pressure preload and a rebound adjustment. paid $280 at the time.
-2000 marzocchi z2 atom 80. - heaviest fork she has, and most solidly built. coil springs preload adjustment and rebound adjustment. works very well and feels the most solid. you can get the 2001 atom race on sale for $269 these days. (pretty much the same fork).
-2001 Manitou SX-R weighs in between the other two. works great and has compression damping adjustment the other two lack. looks cheaper but so far no problems. paid only $129.00 for it so if you're on a tight budget this is a great fork. the new "Six" series are pretty much the same forks and are also avaible at good prices these days.

| Help here.... | Adam Apr 9, 2002 4:21 PM | | I weigh around 110 Lbs, so i'm a very light rider too. If I were you, I would definetly go air. I have tried a few coil/mcu forks, and they're just to darn stiff. With an air fork, its way easier to tune so you get full travel and proper sag. If you're riding XC. Here are some options.
2002 Rock shox Duke XC, The marzocchi MXC air. Duke C is you're more on a Budjet. Or if you wanna save some cash, pick up a 2002 Judy SL, air assist.
Any nice air fork will be an upgrade over your fork, and give you a ton of tuning options. |
