I weigh 225lbs and have a 2000 sid xc. I have filled the air chamber to its max recommended pressure (according to Rock Shox manual) but still get about 40mm of sag. Can I go higher than the recommended pressure without blowing the seals or is the fork not made for a bigger rider?

I think Rockshox now suggests that nobody over 180 lbs ride on their air forks. I weigh in at 185 on a heavy day and my Sid Sl flops around like a wet noodle, but I don't have the same air problem that you have. You could try to pump up the pressure, but you may have to deal with some tough consequences.
