| Fox Float R vs. Float RC (rear shock) | kristian Apr 9, 2002 1:22 PM | | I am debating which shock to get on a Superlight. The bike will be ridden 80% of the time by my fiance who is an advanced beginner and 20% of the time by me when I ride XC trails without her. I can picture both of us flipping the lockout lever and then forgetting to flip it back open on a downhill.
The RC is more expensive, but the bottom line is: which shock will be durable in the long run?
Thanks!

| no use for lockout on the Superlight | derby Apr 9, 2002 3:05 PM | | I rode a Superlight for 2 years and never used the lockout (except in slimy mud), not even on road climbs. The suspension firms up nicely with pedal strokes even when standing and pedaling in the bigger two rings, but still absorbs bumps very well when climbing. Set about 15 - 25% sag in the rear to match your fork.
The R may be more durable too, due to having less moving parts and seals.

| ditto | Steve-O Apr 10, 2002 5:25 AM | | I could probably count the number of times I used the lockout on my Superlight on one hand.
The superlight is a good design. Don't worry about the lockout... |
| the only reason I see for lock-out... | WadeO Apr 10, 2002 4:41 PM | | is so that you can ride home if the seal blows. You'll kill the shock if you ride on it blown. That said, I'm in my third year on a Float with lock-out and I never use it. It's on a Turner O2. |
