Can you only run one spring...(2 posts)

Can you only run one spring...Stun

Hey.
I'm looking to make a pair of Judy XC's (2000) softer by taking out one of the springs - at the moment I have one hard and one medium spring. I'm thinking of getting rid of the medium spring to achieve full travel. Will this have any negative effects on the fork? They don't seem too soft with only one spring so at the moment I can't see any downsides - plus the fork will even be lighter.

P.S. The fork is set to 4 inches.
Probably not the best idea....but...Squash

Not the best idea with a fork designed to have two springs to begin with. But it will work. It has a tendency to unevenly load the bushings and wear them unevenly. You'll get some weird wear patterns on them. And with Rock Shox rep for using softer bushings than most you might get some acclerated wear as well. But as long as you take care of the fork it should last for a while. The best remedy for the situation is to get the proper springs and install them. If you are looking at a single firm spring being the rate that you need, then probably either a medium/soft combination or a soft/soft set up would get you in the ball park for your weight.
