Bullit + SuperT - can it climb?!(6 posts)

Bullit + SuperT - can it climb?!roee

Hey guys,

After choosing my new frame (SC Bullit), I'm in search for matching suspension.
Originally I thought about a Z1 QR20 (I come from a Judy XC...), but now when I think of it, the Bullit has 7" in the back, and I'm a quite heavy rider (200lbs) so the dual crown of the Super T could be a real benefit and it could match the suspension in the back perfectly. Also the idea of going bigger and faster with the better DH fork is indeed tempting.

Problem is that I do have some climbing on my daily riding ground. I don't climb for fun and don't care much about speed uphill (I'll get used to the extra weight eventually). Is it a good idea or should I just buy the Z1 (or any other SC relatively light fork, for the matter)? My riding style doesn't involve going out of the saddle at all - I got used to remaining seated and pedaling smoothly, so I reckon the travel is less of a problem than weight (am I wrong?).

I'm not doing all-out DH but hard XC/Freeriding (don't we all? :))

And something else to think about: Who would be more affected by bicycle weight, a guy who weighs 200lbs or one who weighs 150lbs? I think the latter, as the increase in percentage is bigger.. so perhaps the weight isn't so bad here as i'm already a pig?

Sorry for the mess, and thanks in advance..!
sure. you can make it climb, but doesn't mean you'll enjoy itRVM

with such a tall fork up front. I'd go with a Z1 MCR instead. It'll make your Bullit more versatile. If you huck off large cliffs often, then you'd be better off with the Jr. T.

I wouldn't worry about weight if you're not a racer.
thanks! and a question..roee

Can't I compensate for the larger height of the DC fork by using a lower stem/handlebar combination?
the forcast?=paina bit tall

dats a bit tall to be climbing, but if you really want to have that much fork and climb....go ahead.

I do it all the time. Bullits actually climb pretty well. You're not going to be able to hammer up the climbs and technical climbs are tough, but the back end is nice and quiet and doesn't bob around much. For me the most important thing for climbing is bike fit, and the large frame fits me well, plus I can get my seatpost up high enough, so it makes the climbs pretty painless.

I'm not sure what the point of having a 7" bullit with a single crown noodle on the front is anyway, especially if you're a bigger, stronger rider. I'd certainly suggest that you go for the 6" or 7" double crown fork and accept that you'll have to take it easy on the climbs.
go Super T...dante

Ok, that's a big blanket statement and I guess it's not right for everyone, but given your size... You could definitely go for a 5" STIFF SC fork like the Fox Vanilla forks, and you'd have a very capable trail bike. However, if you start doing drops of any kind, or like to go DH'ing once in a while, you're definitely going to feel the short-comings of a smaller fork. It's up to you, but you should be able to climb most things with it regardless.
