| 2002 Duke XC or 2002 Psylo XC? | Brad Jun 5, 2002 2:52 PM | | I'm looking at replacing my 99 Judy XC shock on my hardtail and was looking at the Duke XC and the Psylo XC. I'm about 200lbs and essentially ride mostly XC, but I want more travel than the 63mm my Judy offers. I think I would probably prefer an 80mm shock. I'm by no means a racer or anything, just a weekend warrior who likes to get out and have a good time. I like the idea of being able to adjust the travel on the Psylo with the uturn function but I'm not sure I would get enough use out of it to warrant having it. I'm basically just looking for opinions or suggestions on what shock to purchase. I'm looking to spend around $200 or less. Thanks for any suggestions. |
| I thought the Judy's could be set to 100 mm travel. | RVM Jun 5, 2002 3:15 PM | | Maybe yours is an older model. But it's probably too flexy for your weight anyways.
Uturn aside, some ppl prefer coil others air. I prefer coil even though air works fine for me.
Well, since you don't need the Uturn, the Duke's a good choice. But be warned though. RockShox's customer service ain't that great.
I'd get a lower end Marzocchi for that price. |

The Psylo rides higher (crown race to axle length) for a given amount of travel than the Duke, which is something to keep in mind when upgrading, especially if your old frame was only designed with 63mm of travel in mind.
I have to agree with RVM though, you might be able to get a better Marzocchi fork for the money: try and get one with SSVF damping (ie MXC SSVF). |
| I went with the Duke XC. | MongooseMan Jun 6, 2002 4:38 AM | | I've got an older Mongoose that had an Indy XC long travel (75mm) on it. So I went with the Duke XC. It is one awesome fork. Very stiff and smooth. I was amazed at how much difference it made. I read some articles on the adjustable travel thing and they pointed out unless you do allot of climbing and allot of descending then your just wasting your money, you will never use the travel settings.
FYI: I ride XC and weight 185lbs. I got my Duke XC at Supergo.com for $189. |
